It is annoying, time and time again, to have to descale the coffee machine, change gaskets in the toilet, because the water runs and many other nuisances that come from lime in the water.

I think everyone dreams of being able to get water without lime, and then maybe most people have a reluctan vote to mess too much with our delicious water that’s pumped straight up from the underground.

We can boast of having some of the world’s cleanest water, a little yet. Because no one has quite mastered what the many decades of emissions of manure and weed control in the fields will really have an impact on our future water.

I hope, of course, that we can still just pump the water out of the underground and use as drinking water.

We drink our own groundwater, it is controlled for that hazardous substances are below minimum values, but otherwise the water plant simply oxygenates the water, and filters it in a sand filter before it is sent to our taps.

It is called a simple water treatment and it makes there a lot of good substances in the water that are healthy to drink.

It’s pretty impressive.

Abroad treats water more

We are privileged that our water is so healthy, because in other countries they cannot settle for a simple water treatment. Here they are talking about an advanced water treatment.

In many places in the world there is not enough water in the underground, so that uses the surface water from lakes, or from sources.

The water from surface stores is dirty and needs to be filtered for much more, including bacteria, viruses, animals and plants. It’s actually quite disgusting to think about.

Everything is removed here, so if there is to be minerals in the water afterwards, it is something that needs to be added, i.e. completely artificial water.

What about salt water as drinking water?

When we talk about water shortages, why don’t we just use salt water? There’s plenty of it, and it’s just the salt that needs to be removed!

It is quite possible, it is just so energy intensive that it does not pay if there is just the shadow of another option.

But places where it is not possible to extract enough water from groundwater or surface, there are actually plants that, with reverse osmosis, turn salt water into drinking water. Or drinking water is so much said, for it is almost distilled water, without anything, not taste either.

Well, it’s possible, it’s just expensive.

Limestone genes

One of the things I could be besides is the lime in the water. Or that is, I think so. For lime every year is the reason why we need to use harsh cleaning products, change perlators in faucets, or at least clean them, and clean everything that comes into contact with the water.

This is also the reason why water pipes sometimes stop completely and need to be replaced.

If only we could have a lime-free home.

But we can!

Several products have come on the market to treat the water and fix our lime problem.

Unfortunately, not everyone is equally environmentally friendly, or gentle on our precious drinking water.

Softening plant

In a softening plant, chemistry, typically salt, is used to chemically process the water and remove lime. Unfortunately, a softener also removes the good substances that are in our delicious groundwater. It’s not so good.

Studies have shown that when the lime is completely removed from the water, we get worse teeth unless we make up for the lack of calcium in the water, and eat extra calcium, or drink more milk.

On the other hand, a chemical softener abolishes the lime, making cleaning easier, the coffee maker does not need to be descaled, and the perators do not need to be changed.

What is a perlator, you probably think?

Gentle water treatment

Instead of using chemistry, I advocate a more gentle water treatment. Electromagnetism is used here to pulverize the lime, so you don’t completely avoid lime, but it is in powder form, and significantly easier to remove.

At the same time, the water retains its good taste and all the minerals, lime and iron contained in the groundwater are preserved.

Can be sawn and cleaved on the square

A strain quickly weighs over 100 kg, so you may have a problem getting it dragged off whole. If you acquire a portable, gasoline-powered wood cleaver, you can usefully cut the trunks of the square (requires a gasoline-powered chainsaw),cleave them, and transport them home as ready as they get, just to stack in a wood tower or in a wood stand.

This way, you won’t have to avoid all the mess it causes at home, for example, often in the driveway, where it takes hours to clean the space again.

When you start removing wood from your place in the woods, remember to bring your receipt and leave one of the tribes with your number on it as the last.

Cut into slices and transported

You can also choose to cut the strains for the length you need, and then transport the wood slices home. At home you can simply split the wood into pieces that fit your wood-burning stove. At home you can use your electric powered wood clover, not everyone has a petrol-powered petrol drive:)

This way you can quickly empty the space in the forest and you are closer to a cup of hot coffee while you clover the wood.

Chips and ral wood

We have many times collected chips and ral wood, those bits that cannot be stacked, and almost just small sticks, in sacks or garden waste bags. It is perfect for ignition, and gives a good flame at the start of the ignition. It may seem like a waste of time when it gets assembled, but I’ve always been glad we’ve done it when it needs to be turned on.

State forests and the Danish Nature Agency

You will find information on where to buy and collect firewood from the Danish state forests on the Danish Nature Agency’s website

It is as follows:

• It’s easiest to create a profile before you start
• Find the log stack you want (whole strains)
  • Click the map for the area you want to retrieve firewood from
  • Select a specific forest, tree variety, or diameter, if necessary.
  • Search log stacks
  • Select a good stack (click More… next to the log stack)
  • Put in basket and pay at checkout
• You get an email with a sales receipt and a card for the log stack
• Download the strains, and if you don’t download all the same day, leave it with the number at the end
• The stack must be retrieved within 3 months of purchase
• You must pick up, saw and cleave the trunks on weekdays between 7 and 18, Saturday 7 to 14 and NOT Sundays and Holidays!
• You must drive the nearest possible road, and remember to close the doors and booms after you again
• The sales receipt must be visible in the windscreen

If you cut the wood on the site, use biodegradable chain saw oil. The Danish state forests are environmentally certified, and all forest management must therefore meet certain requirements.

Check the stack of strains

Before you decide to buy some strains, here are a few really good tips.

1. Choose a nearby forest so you don’t have to drive too far
2. Check on the Danish Nature Agency’s website what power numbers are for sale right now
3. Head out into the woods and go for a good walk. Find a stack you think is good, write down the effect number.
4. At home you buy the stack online and then you are ready.

Then you’re ready to pick up the tree.

An example

Grevinge forest is a stone’s throw from where I live, if you’re strong. Here I found some numbers on stacks I think looked so good.

On the Danish Nature Agency’s website I choose first north-west Zealand, and then Grevinge forest in the list of forests:

Then I look through the list, it is obviously not sorted alphabetically. In fact, I can’t figure out how it’s sorted, maybe on the basis of the chaos principle 🙂

I find my number: 909711

Immediately you can see that it is beech wood that is 18.07 rm and it costs 10,842.

If you don’t bother those big tribes, but just want a little petti, you might want to sank firewood. I.e. pick up what lies in the forest floor 🙂 It can easily provide some easy space.

Either in beautiful freestanding stacks, or if you can’t catch the scam and it topples over, you can use a firewood rack of some kind.

It can be anything from two barrels up the house wall where the wood can be stacked between, to homemade wood racks or maybe even a whole wood shed if there is a lot.

You can also just buy a ready-made firewood rack and save time designing and making it yourself.

It is important that the rack is suitable for the firewood and that there is enough air around the wood, while not allowing it to get wet.

The stacked wood must be sufficiently dried before it can be used in the stove or fireplace.

Stack firewood in the garden

Those who do well can make the most amazing shapes out of their log stack.

It can be anything from a row with straight edges, to round towers, or creative staffings that look like animals, statues, lamps or a sculpture.

Only the imagination sets the limit, and really it’s pretty easy when you can.

The trick is to find pieces that lie really well at each end, and then use the strange pieces of wood in the middle of it all.

That way you can design your own log stack.

There are many different types of wood racks, from small designer bowls to to towing 5 pieces of firewood at a time, to smaller wall hangings and then the larger boxes or burn racks that actually hold a few room’s.

But it’s not really for storage for long periods of time, nor for drying as it doesn’t last that long..

Outside, you can choose a burn rack that can store more firewood for longer. You can choose to build yourself, or buy a finished one, such as xl barley.

If you choose to build it yourself, you can design it to fit where it should stand, and you decide how many rows you want to make room for.
